The Dotfam Project

We have to start somewhere, so here we are and as they say: think globally and act locally...

Members of The Dotfam Association know that creating a new domain, .FAM, could be a long process, but we also know that we at the beginning of a genuine social revolution.

Thinking globally is thinking with the help and cooperation of all who submit their ideas, and acting locally means to have a place where we can collect, organize, and share them.

Dotfam's history:

2008

• January 2008 - We established the Board and Management Teams of the DOTFAM Association.
• Development of the Association. Working plan. Search for grants and donations. Division of management areas.
• DOTFAM project presentation at the Department of Social Affairs, Family, Youth and Sports of the Government of Navarra.
• May 29, 2008 - Approval of the Association DOTFAM by the Interior Department of the Spanish Goverment.
• Preparation and recording of the institutional DOTFAM video, that was presented at the 32th International Congress of ICANN in Paris.
• Implementation and development of our www.dotfam.net
• June 13, 2008 - First contact with the City Council of Pamplona where are located the head offices of Dotfam. The project was presented at the responsible of the Department for Politics and New Technologies.
• June 22, 2008 - Attendance to the 32 International Congress of ICANN in Paris.
• Seeking funds for the development of Dotfam project.
• 2008-11-02 - Attendance to the 33 International Congress of the ICANN Cairo.

2007

• January 1, 2007 - We introduced the new DOTFAM logo.
• March 2007 - We attended the 28th International Congress of ICANN in Lisboa. It was our first contact with ICANN and as result we got a positive response to the idea and the technical possibilities for the success of the new domain
• We came into contact with some existing domains (.com .org, .cat ) and other ones still in development process (.nyc, .gal, .berlin)
• We started the first contacts to get institutional support for DOTFAM, continuing with the new idea development.
• DOTFAM Website development.
• Studies on the application of new technologies in the family. The Cyber Home and home automation.

2006

• May 8, 2006 - The idea to create an specific domain for families: www.myfamily.fam was born.
• October 26, 2006 - Copyright ref. Nº LO-154/2006 for the idea of a new domain for the family in the official registry office of the Culture Department of Spain was issued.
• November 1, 2006 - We acquired our domains for web development and sharing of the Dotfam idea: www.puntofam.org and www.dotfam.org
• During that year we also began to study the DOTFAM domain, ICANN, the development of other potential domains, and the technical potential of the cyber home.
• We also developed the initial rules and articles of the future Dotfam Association, and the documentation to explain the Project.
